Software’s web services ranges from development
of comprehensive informational web sites, to development
of web application components, to fully functional portals.
Web services provide a standardized way to develop and
deploy enterprise software applications. This approach
allows applications that are on different platforms and
in different enterprises to interact with minimal effort.
The result is reduced integration cost and greater agility
in how companies communicate with their partners and customers
and adapt to change.
Web services are software components that use SOAP,
WSDL and/or UDDI to perform distributed computing, Simple
Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is a lightweight protocol
for exchanging information based upon the Extensible
Markup Language (XML). Web Services Description Language
(WSDL) is a specification for describing Web services
and publishing data to XML registries and repositories.
Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UUDI)
is a “meta service” for locating Web services
by enabling queries against metadata.
Because of Web services technology, we will see greater
use of event-driven, immediate response systems. Services-oriented
architectures will emerge along with a greater ability
to integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions
and outsource business functions or support services.
Enterprises will create ad hoc business relationships
more quickly, and potential marketplaces will expand
globally.
